Buy West African Iroko Air Dried Beams
Air-dried West African Iroko beams are staples of exterior building projects due to their natural resilience & strength, and availability in thicknesses up to 205mm. Cut or planed to size, they can also be used effectively for cladding and decking – as with their kiln-dried counterpart, Air-dried West African Iroko beams are a classic look that works in any setting. We use West African Iroko which s an incredibly durable timber, with colours ranging from golden-yellow to chocolate-brown. It can be used to create stunning cladded walls & garden structures, and can be left untreated due to natural resistance against rot and insects. Iroko is the ideal timber for decoration purposes as well as practical use.

Frequently Asked Questions about Iroko Timber Beams
Will Iroko move when it dries?
Iroko will move when it dries/seasons. Movement can vary depending on how much internal moisture it has. Air dried beams will have seasoned and dried out naturally for 2 years, so they will likely move and split.
What’s the difference between sawn and planed Iroko Beams?
Sawn Iroko beams will not only be rough in texture but will likely not be perfectly regular with some faces tapering slightly. Also there may be saw marks and gauges caused by machinery and handling. The planing process not only smooths the surface but regularises it allowing for the sides to be parallel and equal. Its important to note that the industry acceptable tolerances are much greater on sawn than planed. Sawn and planed usually around 5mm under or over.
How can Planed Iroko Timber Beams be cleaned?
They can be cleaned via planing, sanding, or blasting, if desired. You may also notice a blue stain across the surface, simply caused by a natural reaction between the timber and the steel tooling used to shape it. These can also be sanded off easily.
How well can the beams be finished?
In general, Iroko finishes well from the planer or moulding machine although in some cases a reduction of cutting angle to 20° is preferable. The wood can be stained, polished, waxed, and glued satisfactorily, takes nails and screws well, except near edges, when the wood should be pre-bored, and takes liming and fuming treatments well.
What thicknesses do our Iroko beams come in?
We stock the standard thicknesses in a variety of lengths, mainly square sections, 155mm and 205mm beams, ranging from 2mtrs to 4mtrs in length.
