Genuine Teak Hardwood Timber

Teak timber (Tectona grandis) is recognised worldwide for its durability and great stability. It has a natural oil content that is its water repellent, making it immune to rotting, fungi and most chemicals.

The genuine Teak (Tectona grandis) now available from Timbersource, is from a 40,000-hectare plantation in Ghana, a source which has UK Forestry Commission approval. Trees are felled from 10 years or more, depending upon girth. Continual replanting is part of the process, to develop a long-term supply.

Please note teak boards will contain sapwood and blonde wood with plenty of character. Not suitable for boat decks or matching with existing Burma teak.

Teak boards sold in 1 inch and 2 inch thicknesses

Sizes: 23mm x 100mm x 2.2m and 52mm x 100mm x 2.2m

If these sizes are too narrow or short or you require a consistent heartwood please consider using West African Iroko which can be purchased below as sawn or PAR from Timbersorce within 5 working days.

Cut to Size / Planed Teak Wood

Teak is a beautiful colour and is generally fine to coarsely grained, of even texture and has a slightly oily feel. Generally yellow/brown to dark golden brown heartwood with greyish or white sapwood is usual.

Although Tectona grandis (teak) can still be found in Myanmar and Thailand, much of it was cut down over many decades due to aggressive commercial exploitation. In recent years industrial plantations of teak are now situated around the world.
